The Partnership That Works!!!

Saturday, the 24th of September 2011 established an interesting and solid partnership between Freedom Foundation and The Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel when both organizations stormed the City Turf of City of David Church, Victoria Island, Lagos for A 5-Aside Football Tournament. The tournament was a platform to consolidate The Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel’s footprints in supporting charitable organizations such as Freedom Foundation and supporting them to achieve their goals of touching lives in the society.

Come 15th of September 2012, The Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel in partnership with Freedom Foundation once again presents another football tournament tagged: “Charity Football Cup Tournament” with details attached.

We commend the demonstration of this continued commitment by The Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel to give back to the society in valuable ways.

Me, Myself and Others: Volunteering In these Challenging Times

Every day I listen to the news and all I hear are things I’d rather not hear! With all the corruption, financial turmoil, natural disasters, sickness and suffering going on, it’s understandable that most people choose to focus entirely on themselves and their immediate family members and not bother about anyone else. “Me, myself and I” has become the attitude for survival, but though times are tough, it is still important to remember and help “others”. Have you ever moaned about a particular issue in your life only to feel really grateful after hearing about a much more serious problem a friend or family member is passing through? You only need to look out of your window to see that you are truly blessed. Our world is far from perfect, but there is so much to be grateful for and so much we can do to make our world/ community a better place for all of us.

You may ask, “How can I help others when I’m feeling the pinch too”?

Well the idea is to get creative in order to give back. Have you ever thought of volunteering your time or talent to help others? You may be unable to donate money to the less privileged but you are a very good motivational speaker, you can volunteer to become a mentor in a non-profit! You can encourage others with stories about how you or someone you know was able to overcome difficulties and become successful in life. You may also be really good with your hands as a skilled fashion designer, jewellery designer or web developer and you can volunteer in a non profit to teach these skills to vulnerable people who are in desperate need of them.

You may have friends who have the resources to donate and want to donate but don’t know how to, you can tell them about the non-profit you know that needs help! Those shoes and clothing items you have that are so last season can change someone’s life! Call your friends and help them get together the good quality stuff they hardly ever use or have no use for anymore and either make a big donation to a non-profit or hold a garage sale and give the proceeds to a non-profit. So many non-profits are unable to hold fundraising events because they cannot afford to pay for a venue and you may have a spacious backyard that you hardly ever use, donating your backyard for a day can help a non-profit hold an important fundraising event and really make a difference! You can even help them to organise the event and invite your generous friends. It’s all about finding creative ways to give back.

The benefits of volunteering are immense! Volunteering can provide you with renewed creativity, motivation and vision that you can carry over into other areas of your life.  Many people choose to volunteer because of the personal benefits that volunteering has on their character; volunteers often say that the experience has made them a better person. In most cases, volunteers also become more concerned and aware of the problems facing the world and many feel that they were ignorant or narrow-minded before. Volunteering can even help to mould the character of our children. Children watch everything we do and by giving back to the community, we show them how volunteering makes a difference and how good it feels to help others and enact change. Volunteering can help to boost your confidence, you’ll learn and do things that you might not normally get the chance to – this can be a real confidence boost.

Do you want to make a difference in someone’s life? Try something new? Strengthen your community? Teach your skills to others? Solve problems? Then please consider signing up as a volunteer in Freedom Foundation. For non-profits like Freedom Foundation, people are the greatest resource we have during tough times and our need for volunteers has never been greater. Volunteers are an integral part of Freedom Foundation and it is through the efforts of volunteers that we are able to meet many of the goals and objectives of the Foundation.

Support A Good Cause

Hello everyone! Welcome to the month of July! For those of you in Lagos haven’t the past few weeks been very rainy! Despite the challenges of the rainy season, it’s been business as usual here in Freedom Foundation.

Freedom Foundation will be celebrating its 10th anniversary very soon! It has been an awesome journey. From inception, all our programs have made significant strides in carrying out the mission of the organization and achieving all major targets and we have various accomplishments to be proud of.

Despite the successes recorded by Freedom Foundation, there are still vulnerable people living on the streets, under the bridges and in our communities that need a helping hand, rehabilitation, education and empowerment. Freedom Foundation in partnership with you can touch even more lives.

We are looking forward to celebrating with all our wonderful donors and various activities have been planned to celebrate this milestone so watch this space!

Freedom Foundation would like to use this opportunity to thank all donors, partners, board members, and volunteers for standing with us and supporting us through these years. Thank you for ten wonderful and productive years!

From The ED

Hello Friends! Can you believe its June already?  How time flies!

Child Education

At Freedom Foundation we are proud to be part of a community that is changing lives and building society through programs that continue to be effective in achieving our goal of rehabilitating, educating and empowering  those who are needy and marginalized as a result of their background, lack of education, or a cycle of unfortunate circumstances.

The 16th of June is celebrated all over Africa as the Day of the African Child. This day was first initiated by the Organization of African Unity, now the African Union (AU) to honor the memory of the thousands of black school children killed in Soweto in 1976 during a protest against apartheid. The Day also draws attention to the lives of African children today. This day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the bright and wonderful children in our Bethesda Child Support Agency or the young girls in Genesis House who have experienced trauma as a result of human trafficking.

The 26th of June is commemorated worldwide as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, presenting a unique opportunity for us all to take a stand and support the drug campaign. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is leading the international campaign to raise awareness about the major challenge that illicit drugs represent to society as a whole, and especially to teenagers and young adults.

The goal of the campaign is to mobilize support and to inspire people to act against drug abuse targeting most especially teenagers and young adults who are particularly vulnerable to using illicit drugs to put their health first and not to take drugs.

Freedom Foundation was at last year’s World Drug Day Event, held at the Alausa Secretariat and hosted by the Lagos State Government to commemorate the day. The Lagos State Government clearly put their weight and support behind and for Freedom Foundation in their mission to curb and eliminate drug related issues within the State.

You can help Freedom Foundation to raise funds by organizing small fund raising events in your home with a few friends. Fun events such as make-up classes, dance classes or a fund raising breakfast meeting will help to raise valuable funds to improve the lives of the vulnerable young people in our society. Freedom Foundation will work with you to ensure that your event is successful and stress free.

If you would like to organize an event and/or make a donation to benefit Freedom Foundation please call Ugochi on 08085890825 or e mail her at u.ikomi@freedomfoundationng.org

We look forward to hearing from you!
